I made these wall hangings at a quilt show. The patterns are from "Fabled Flowers." The top row is Akebia, and the bottom one is "Camellia Japonica,  They were fun to make.

Here are stories that were included in the book for each flower.

Akebia - "On a summer afternoon, a swallowtail butterfly was flying around looking for flower nectar. She stopped on a pine branch to rest and there met an inchworm named Lerun. They chatted a while. Lerun told the butterfly of his life-long desire to fly and she ageed to take him on her shoulders if he would show her where she could find some flowers. They flew to a clearing in the woods and there they saw thousands of Akebia flowers in full bloom. It was a wonderful day for both of them."

Camellia Japonica - "There once was a cricket named Kika who played a violin given to him by his father. Kika was not happy with the sound of his violin, so he decided to buy a new one. When spring came, he floated down the on a camellia flower to the nearest village. He went into a shop where violins were made. There, he saw a tall cricket wearing a fancy black silk hat who was in the middle of buying the best violin the the shop The elegant cricket was Kika's father, who, to Kika's great surpriswe, was buying the beautiful new violin as a special gift for his son."

The hand-stitching is called sashiko.
