A BAG FOR TEACHER

10/8/2015

My daughter asked for a bag big enough to transport her laptop and supplies back and forth to school. As a teacher, she had lots of paperwork for grading etc., and wanted everything to fit in one bag.  She picked the fabrics she wanted from my stash, and this is what she got.

The extra blue bag was to put smaller things inside so they don't drop to the bottom under the laptop and folders. It just sits inside the bag. It could be used for pencils, markers, note pads, etc.

Inside there is another wide pocket as deep as the bag, and a key holder (left side of bag attached at top of bag) so car or room keys can be found easily.

This pocket is good for small purse/wallet, etc.

Basically, I just improvised and didn't use any pattern at all. I measured the size I wanted and added seam allowance, then took it from there.  Fabrics were cotton batiks, and I used a heavy weight, double-sided fusible batting between lining and outside fabric. The strap is one continuous loop sewn outside of bag. The loop supports the bottom of bag while supporting the sides as well.

I'll be back with more of my bags.
